A LunchBox Love Card

I have taken a bit of a summer writing break, but it is time to get the kids ready for the new school year. You may be finishing/starting to buy supplies and clothes. Here are a few other purchases you might want to consider:

Kindercone – This is an annual back to school tradition in our household. It makes the first day of school extra special and the kids are always excited to see what treats they have in their “school cone”. Dating back 200 years, the tradition of the Schultuete or “school cone” is one of the most celebrated and long-standing traditions in Germany. At the beginning of every school year, these large, colorful school cones, purchased or home-made, sweeten the child’s first day of school as they come filled with little gifts, school supplies and sweets.

Lunchbox Love® – This is a fun way to let your kids know you love them every day with positive notes and fun trivia and jokes in their lunchbox, backpack, binder, or pillow. Positive words on the front inspire while fun trivia & jokes on the back entertain. Each volume contains 12 cards–10 with different phrases and fun facts or jokes and 2 blanks so you can add a personal message. The picture in this post is a sample of what one of the Lunchbox Love® cards looks like. I bought a set of 8 boxes (96 cards) and will include them in my daughters’ lunchboxes most days of the week.

Six O’Clock Scramble: It’s a new school year and the time to make resolutions like “Commit to sitting down together 2-4 times a week having dinner as a family and not allowing TV and electronic gadgets at the dinner table.” You can do it!

For me the challenge very often is not about actually making dinner, but what to make. A few years ago, I discovered The Six O’Clock Scramble. It is an online menu and recipe service to help parents plan and prepare healthy home-cooked dinners, and is often described by users as “life-changing.” It has been for me 🙂 For less than $1/week (depending upon subscription length), Scramble members receive a customizable weekly dinner plan that includes easy recipes and takes less than 30 minutes or less of prep time, side dishes and a corresponding grocery list plus access to thousands of more recipes online. For more information or to sign up for the Six O’Clock Scramble, click here.

I can’t believe the summer is almost over, but the excitement of a new school year is just around the corner!
